All over the world, Uber has revolutionized the way in which people get around – making sure that riders always have access to a safe, reliable, and convenient way to travel.

This is particularly true in Hong Kong, and we are proud of our strong safety track record and the many features that make Uber a safe way to get around.

HIGH STANDARD OF DRIVER-PARTNERS

Our driver-partners and their commitment to providing great service to riders is a defining aspect of the Uber experience. Thus, we hold them to high standards, requiring all driver-partners to pass a rigorous background check, go through an in-person onboarding process, and possess valid documentation. All our driver-partners must drive a registered, 2006 or later model four-door vehicle under a full driver’s licence.

USING TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE SAFETY

Uber’s technology enables us to focus on safety in ways that others cannot. For example, trips are no longer anonymous as they have traditionally been; before each Uber trip begins, the rider is provided with the driver’s name, photograph, licence plate, vehicle type, and contact number. Riders also see the position of the vehicle approaching on the in-app map, so they can wait safely in the location of their choice.

Another example is the Share My ETA feature, which allows riders to easily share their current location, trip route, and estimated arrival time with friends and loved ones – keeping them informed and providing peace of mind.

After the ride is done, riders receive an e-mail receipt with all the relevant details of the trip for their records.

EVERY RIDE INSURED

All driver-partners are required to have a current third-party insurance policy. But we don’t stop there – we want to ensure that riders, as well as members of the community, are as protected as possible.

That’s why all driver-partners in Hong Kong are also covered by Uber’s additional contingent coverage for bodily injury and property damage to third parties. This means that if, in the event of an accident, a driver-partner’s own insurance is exhausted or does not apply for any reason, passengers, pedestrians, and the community at large can rest assured knowing that Uber’s global insurance policy will provide coverage.

5-STAR SERVICE

We ask all riders and drivers to give feedback for completed rides before requesting or accepting another ride. Our customer service and safety team reviews this information and investigates any issues, ensuring accountability and incentivizing quality service. If a rider left something behind or otherwise requires assistance, we are ready to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
