About the Role

We are searching for a high-calibre counsel to help manage our litigation and regulatory needs in Canada. This is a rare opportunity for a lawyer to join an innovative and exciting tech company and gain substantive, hands-on experience with business clients and external partners.

You will be based at Uber's Toronto office. Hybrid work environment, currently 3 days per week in office.

This is for a newly created role. Expected compensation range is CAD$152,000 per year - CAD$169,000 per year.

What You’ll Do:

  • Primary focus will be hands-on work on litigation and regulatory matters, including advising the business on compliance, drafting submissions, attending hearings, and developing strategy
  • Be an active partner, and ensure the provision of timely business-focused advice, to a variety of areas including Uber’s Delivery (Uber Eats) and Mobility (ridesharing) lines of business
  • Act as a point of contact on Canadian issues for the business in Canada as well as for teams at our HQ in San Francisco and Uber’s lawyers around the globe
  • Practice ground-breaking law as you work on matters in a cutting-edge industry

Basic Qualifications:

  • J.D. or LL.B and license to practice law in at least one Canadian province
  • Minimum of four years of relevant legal experience gained in-house, in private practice, or a combination of those

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience advising on legal issues related to consumer-facing products
  • Legal experience where litigation, regulatory law, consumer protection, competition, and marketing were areas of focus
  • Confidence operating in a fast-paced, high-functioning environment where the law is still developing
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them
  • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with ability to build relationships, gain credibility, find compromise, and partner with others
  • Bilingualism (French) would be an asset
  • Enthusiasm about Uber’s values and mission!

For Canada-based roles: The base salary range for this role is CAD$152,000 per year - CAD$169,000 per year.
