Staff Software Engineer - Enterprise Platform
About the Role
As a Staff Backend Engineer on the Enterprise Identity Platform team, you will be the technical North Star for our identity services. You will design and scale systems that handle millions of requests, ensuring that security, latency, and reliability are never compromised. You will operate at the intersection of deep technical execution and high-level architectural strategy, influencing not just how we build, but what we build.

- Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and evolution of our core identity services to support global scale and enterprise-grade multi-tenancy.
- Technical Strategy: Define long-term technical roadmaps. You’ll identify systemic bottlenecks and proactively re-architect systems before they become liabilities.
- System Ownership: Take end-to-end accountability for the health, performance, and security of high-throughput backend services.
- Engineering Excellence: Champion best practices in CI/CD, observability, and automated testing. You set the bar for what "production-ready" means.
- Mentorship & Influence: Act as a force multiplier by mentoring senior engineers and fostering a culture of rigorous design reviews and collaborative problem-solving.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Product, Security, and Infrastructure teams to align identity solutions with broader business objectives.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Experience: 10+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a Staff or Lead capacity.
- Identity Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of identity protocols and standards.
- System Design: Proven track record of building and maintaining high-availability distributed systems
- Language Proficiency: Expert-level command of backend languages such as Go
- Data Consistency: Experience with distributed databases (SQL and NoSQL) and an understanding of the trade-offs between consistency, availability, and partition tolerance
- Security Mindset: A "security-first" approach to engineering, with experience defending against common identity-related attack vectors.
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Enterprise Integration: Deep experience implementing SSO (Single Sign-On) workflows and SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) for automated user provisioning and de-provisioning.
- Distributed Databases: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Spanner (or similar horizontally scalable, strongly consistent relational databases). You understand how to optimize schemas for global scale and manage long-running migrations.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
