Manager, US Federal Tax
About the Role
Uber is looking for a Federal Tax Manager as a key operator within the U.S. tax function, owning the federal tax provision with a high degree of independence and supporting tax decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced global environment. This is an opportunity to work with a strong tax team, make an immediate impact, and contribute to scaling processes as the business continues to evolve.
What You’ll Do:
Federal Tax Provision & Reporting -
- Own and lead the U.S. federal income tax provision (quarterly and annual), including ETR analysis, return-to-provision, and related disclosures
- Review and validate key areas such as stock-based compensation, §162(m), §174, and other material book-tax differences
- Support and review FIN 48 / ASC 740 uncertain tax positions
- Ensure outputs are accurate, well-supported, and analytically sound — not just technically correct
- Escalate complex or judgmental issues as appropriate
Tax Analysis & Planning Support -
- Perform U.S. federal tax analysis to support decision-making related to business expansion, tax law changes, and tax efficiency opportunities
- Collaborate with Quantitative Tax, Planning, and Global Tax Accounting teams on forecasting and scenario modeling to support planning and strategic initiatives
- Research tax issues, review legislative developments, and evaluate impact
Ownership & Judgment -
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned areas, understanding both the technical mechanics and underlying drivers
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies proactively as inputs evolve or results do not align with expectations
- Validate that models and processes continue to function correctly as the business scales
Team Leadership & Collaboration -
- Mentor and develop a Senior Tax Analyst, providing guidance on both technical work and review approach
- Manage timelines, deliverables, and communication with the Global Tax Accounting team
- Partner with the U.S. Compliance team to provide technical guidance and review on U.S. tax filings and estimated tax payments
- Collaborate with SALT and U.S. International Tax teams, as well as other stakeholders
Process Improvement & Systems -
- Identify opportunities to improve and scale tax processes, with a focus on reducing risk and increasing efficiency
- Contribute to process and technology improvements, including Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud Service (TRCS) and ONESOURCE Tax Provision (OTP)
- Apply a growth mindset — build practical solutions, iterate, and refine
Additional Responsibilities -
- Liaise with and manage external advisors to ensure timely and effective tax support
- Support tax audits and related documentation
- Prepare reconciliations and analyses as needed
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant tax and accounting experience in either an in-house or public accounting environment

- Experience with uncertain tax positions
- Working knowledge of recent U.S. tax law changes including One Big Beautiful Bill
- Working knowledge of U.S. international tax concepts (e.g., GILTI, FDII) and SALT
- Familiarity with tax provision systems, such as TRCS and OTP
- Ability to work with large datasets using Excel or leveraging AI tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA / MST preferred
- Experience with large public U.S. multinationals
- Experience with ONESOURCE Income Tax and ONESOURCE Uncertain Tax Positions module
- Experience with Oracle HFM or FCCS
- Experience leveraging AI tools to improve workflows
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving inputs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - the ability to communicate complex findings in a clear and concise manner
