As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll play a key leadership role in shaping the architecture, driving technical excellence, and setting the long-term direction for systems that support critical components of Uber’s earner platform. You'll collaborate with product, data science, and engineering partners to translate complex business goals into elegant, sustainable engineering solutions – while mentoring others and leading by example.

6. Own Delivery: Take full ownership of projects from concept to production, ensuring timely execution and measurable impact.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2. 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a deep focus on backend systems and distributed architectures.
3. Expertise in building scalable, resilient services using technologies such as Go, Java, or Python.
4. Strong understanding of system design, data modeling, and performance tuning.

Experience driving large-scale initiatives from inception to delivery across multiple teams or functions.

1. Demonstrated ability to simplify complex systems and align multiple stakeholders on a cohesive technical direction.
2. Experience with data-intensive products, including experimentation frameworks and analytics at scale.
3. Strong operational mindset with experience in designing for availability, reliability, and maintainability.
4. Prior experience mentoring engineers at all levels and helping shape career growth for others.
5. Familiarity with machine learning workflows, experimentation systems, and personalization infrastructure is a plus.
6. Track record of delivering technically ambitious projects with measurable business or product outcomes.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
