Senior Software Engineer, Fulfillment Foundations

What the Candidate Will Do

  1. Work with a best-in-class distributed system at the heart of Uber.
  2. Build vision - Take ownership of a vaguely defined problem, see the big picture, and identify strategically important design goals, inefficiencies, or opportunities for significant improvements. Drive alignment on how to tackle and deliver highly leverage-able solutions at the group and organization levels.
  3. Demonstrate tech expertise to go very deep or broad in solving classes of problems or creating broadly leverage-able solutions.
  4. Execute large scale projects - Provide technical leadership in architecting and building mission-critical distributed systems.
  5. Be a role model on acting with good judgment and responsibility. Deal with difference in opinions in a mature and fair way, helping teams to commit and move forward
  6. Raise the bar on sustainable engineering by improving standard methodologies, producing best-in-class code, documentation, testing, and monitoring.
  7. Mentor other engineers in the org and help develop them into senior engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  1. 5+ years relevant engineering experience.
  2. Proven record of designing and implementing reliable, large scale distributed platforms/systems.
  3. Experience with Java, Go or C++ (bonus points for more than one).
  4. Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. MS / Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field.
  2. Great interpersonal skills, deep technical ability, and a portfolio of successful execution.
  3. Experience with architecting high-scale systems in close partnership with other platform/product engineers.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents.
  5. Passionate about helping teams grow by inspiring and mentoring engineers.
  6. Obsessed with System Efficiency and have a platform attitude.
  7. You can collaborate well with product engineering teams to articulate requirements and system design.
  8. Experience with very large data processing pipelines, and data integrations.
  9. Proven ability to develop other strong engineers into senior engineers, operating and leading their own initiatives with org-wide scope and high impact

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
