Senior Technical Accountant
About the Role
The Senior Technical Accountant serves as a key resource within Uber’s global accounting organization, focused on researching and assessing the GAAP accounting treatment for complex and nonrecurring transactions. This role involves preparing technical accounting memos, supporting SEC reporting, and ensuring accurate and consistent application of accounting policies across the company. The Senior Technical Accountant will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Tax, Legal, and Treasury, and will engage with external auditors to provide explanations and supporting documentation. Reports to the Manager of Technical Accounting.
What You'll Do
- Lead the accounting analysis and documentation for complex, non-recurring transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, financings, and strategic investments
- Advise cross-functional partners such as Finance, Tax, Legal, Treasury, and FinTech on accounting implications of business decisions and policy applications
- Research and interpret U.S. GAAP to develop and present clear accounting positions to senior management and external auditors
- Own technical accounting workstreams for M&A integrations, including policy alignment, purchase accounting, and opening balance procedures
- Support preparation of SEC filings (Forms 10-K and 10-Q), ensuring accurate disclosures for significant transactions
- Oversee journal entries and financial statement impacts of complex accounting areas (e.g. share-based compensation, leases, investments, etc.)
- Drive audit readiness by preparing high-quality supporting documentation and coordinating with external auditors
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
- CPA license (or parts passed) or international equivalent
- 3+ years’ experience in accounting, with audit experience or a mix of public company and audit experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear recommendations
- Experience researching and applying FASB ASC guidance and evaluating Big 4 firm interpretations
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting
- Experience with enterprise accounting systems
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Experience coordinating with valuation specialists and supporting M&A or other nonrecurring transactions
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$122,000 per year - USD$135,500 per year.
