UberGIVING – The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation
Written byThis World AIDS Day, we’re partnering with The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation and enabling riders to help drive towards an AIDS Free Generation.
Every trip that was taken in November and every trip taken in December will have a percentage donated to this non-profit organisation through the UberGivesBack program.
Uber cities around the world have changed the cars in-app to red, to drive awareness around World AIDS Day.
What is UberGIVING?
Previously we automatically rounded down the value of your trip to the nearest rand. We’re now leaving the value of the trip as is and contributing the extra amount to non-profit organisations. In keeping with the business model, our driver-partners will still earn a majority of each fare. These small amounts donated from each riders trip, although a few cents here and there, when combined with riders across the country become a significant contribution. Our first partner was Reach for a Dream from May to July, then Blow the Whistle for August and Tomorrow Trust for September and October.
