For every ride taken this weekend, Uber will feed one person for a week.

Following the success of Uber’s partnership with Afrika Tikkun to provide food eCoupons to their driver and courier partners, Uber is now giving riders a chance to help people in need.

Uber has committed to feeding one person for a week for every ride taken through the app on the weekend Saturday 25th July to Sunday 26th July 2020. The selection of beneficiaries and distribution of food packages throughout this initiative will be led by Afrika Tikkun who remain steadfast in uplifting disadvantaged communities around South Africa.

How will this work?

  1. Open your Uber app and add the promo UberTikkun
  2. Take a trip between Saturday 25th July – Sunday 26th July 2020
  3. For every trip taken, we will feed one person for a week
  4. The Uber app will be available at all times, however, riders who are traveling during curfew hours (21:00 PM to 04:00 AM) will be required to have a relevant permit in line with government regulations.
  5. Terms and conditions apply.

To date, through the food eCoupons, food relief has been provided to over 66 640 drivers, couriers and their families across South Africa. Over the past few months we have worked tirelessly with leading NGOs to ensure we reach the most vulnerable members of society.  We hope to increase these numbers for families across South Africa with our latest initiative,” explains Frans Hiemstra, General Manager, Uber SSA

We realise a lot can still be done, however, we believe our efforts to make a difference in the lives of one family at a time is a great start, and we will continue to give back to the communities who need it the most,” concludes Hiemstra.

Since the pandemic began, Uber has taken meaningful steps to help keep everyone on the Uber platform safe. This includes providing the latest public health information in our apps and all drivers and riders are required to wear a mask or face covering when taking a trip. As part of a new in-app safety checklist, before drivers can go online they will be asked to take a selfie to verify they are wearing a mask or face covering. Riders are also required to take safety precautions like washing their hands before getting in the car, sitting in the backseat, and opening windows for ventilation.
