Philadelphia Rider Information

March 25 / US

Learn more about the fees in your market that make your trips more expensive.

Existing Philadelphia TNC Fee: By law, 1.4% of all rider fares for trips that pick up in Philadelphia go to the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA). Two-thirds of the fee collected by PPA goes to the Philadelphia school district – contributing millions of dollars annually to local schools. The remaining one-third is kept by the PPA. You can see this fee as an added charge on your Uber receipt (“Philadelphia TNC Assessment Fee”).

Mayor Parker’s $1 Double-Tax: Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has proposed a $1 tax on all rideshare trips in Philadelphia. This would effectively be a double-tax on your Uber rides. Through the existing Philadelphia TNC fee, the city already collects millions of dollars a year from Uber riders—66% funds local schools. This new measure adds yet another layer of taxation on everyone who uses rideshare. While SEPTA becomes less and less reliable, Mayor Parker is making it even harder for you to get around Philadelphia by making Uber more expensive.

At a time when Philadelphians are already stretched thin due to rising housing costs and everyday expenses, the Mayor is proposing to make your Uber rides less affordable. This new $1 tax would be passed directly onto you, the rider. Tell Mayor Parker her double-tax on rideshare hurts Philadelphians like you who depend on affordable, reliable transportation to get to work, school, and your essential appointments.

Council hearings begin in April, with a final budget vote scheduled for June. We want to keep you updated on the next steps and how you can stand up against this new double tax proposal.
