Autonomous vehicles are gradually becoming available on the Uber app in select cities, including Dallas. This is a part of our mission to create a hybrid marketplace where AVs and drivers serve our customers each in their own unique way.
What’s happening?
We’re beginning to introduce autonomous vehicles in select cities. Every rollout is closely monitored, and availability may vary based on geography and time of day, which is expected to evolve over time.
Drivers remain at the heart of our platform. You’ll continue to have ways to earn across rides, deliveries and more, and we will keep those opportunities growing as the availability of AVs expands.
Where is this happening?
Right now, autonomous vehicles operate only in sections of certain U.S. cities, with a few partners, representing a small part of our network. Cities include Atlanta, Austin, Dallas and Phoenix.
What this means for you
AVs are designed to compliment, not replace drivers.
Here’s what you should know:
- We expect minimal driver impact
- AVs are limited by geography within a city and operate during specific times of day
- They will help meet rider demand during busy times, or in areas with fewer available drivers
- As the platform grows, more rider engagement means more opportunities for drivers
AVs are simply another way to help meet demand, so more riders can move, and drivers can maximize their earnings.
Uber’s commitment
We’re committed to building a hybrid marketplace where AVs and drivers serve our customers each in their own unique way. Autonomous vehicles are not a replacement, they’re part of a long-term approach to growth that keeps people at the center of everything we do.
Looking ahead
As AVs expand to more cities, we’ll keep you updated first.
Your experience, feedback, and partnership guide how we move forward.
