uberBODA will exist alongside uberX as a separate product. It’s simply an addition to Uber’s range of products to cater for Kampala’s unique travel needs for riders.

It will be available only to riders within the uberBODA service area (Smaller than the UberX service area). Service areas include but are not limited to Makerere, Mulago, Lubiri, Bukoto-Kamwokya, KIU-Kansanga, Kitintale, Kulambiro, Nakivubo-St.Balikuddembe market. uberBODA motorbikes will not be used for uberX trips.

Boda bodas are much smaller vehicles with high fuel efficiency, which reduces the vehicle costs. With lower vehicle costs, the fares on uberBODA can be lower without harming the driver’s take-home earnings. UberBODA fares at launch will be as follow:

Drivers are attracted to Uber because of the opportunity to become their own boss. The launch of this new product creates an opportunity for more driver-partners to bring in a vehicle and become their own boss on Uber at an affordable cost.

uberX remains the main product for riders to move around the city. In addition, Boda Bodas are meant for a different demographic of riders and will be able to attract and introduce new riders to the Uber app that have not used Uber before.

Fares are based on different factors including drivers’ expenses like fuel and vehicle maintenance. Boda Boda’s are much smaller vehicles with a high fuel efficiency which greatly reduces the vehicle costs. With lower vehicle costs, the fares on uberBODA can be lower without harming the driver’s take-home earnings.
