Uber Eats and insurance leader Mingtai Property Insurance announced today that the first tailored third-party liability insurance product for the delivery industry has been approved by the insurance regulatory authority and is expected to take effect on June 1st. In addition, Uber Eats will fully cover the insurance costs for its nearly 70,000 active delivery partners on the platform, providing them with an extra layer of peace of mind when earning on Uber Eats.

Through this third-party liability insurance product, Uber Eats delivery partners will have relevant insurance coverage activated in the event of third-party injury or death due to traffic accidents during delivery trips. The coverage period starts from the time the delivery partner accepts the delivery order on the Uber Driver App until the delivery partner completes the delivery or the order is canceled according to the system records. The maximum insurance payout for each accident resulting in bodily injury or death is up to NTD 4 million.

Starting June 1st, all delivery partners using the Uber Eats platform will not only enjoy the group accident insurance coverage provided since 2020 but also receive additional third-party liability insurance, ensuring their safety with an extra layer of protection.

Karthik Vasudevan, General Manager of Uber Eats Taiwan, said, “Ensuring flexible earning opportunities and safety protection for delivery partners has always been our priority. We appreciate Mingtai Property Insurance leading the industry in developing this insurance program and the swift approval from the relevant regulatory authorities. This is a positive example of industry and regulatory cooperation to provide protection for delivery partners. We will continue to actively advocate for more basic protections for delivery partners on top of accessibility to flexibility.”

Chen Jiawen, General Manager of Mingtai Property Insurance, said, “We are pleased to be the first brand in the industry to provide the first third-party liability insurance scheme for the vast number of delivery partners on the Uber Eats platform. This is also a solution we have developed by breaking through many challenges with corporate social responsibility at its core. We appreciate the guidance and approval from the relevant regulatory authorities. We look forward to this scheme bringing more safety nets to society.”
