Uber today announced a new global technology hub in Istanbul, jumpstarted with the 180 engineers, product managers, designers and data scientists who have joined Uber as part of its recent acquisition of Trendyol Go. The hub will bring together top technology talent from across Türkiye to develop products for consumers, merchants, drivers, and couriers on the Uber platform worldwide. Uber expects to invest $200 million over the next five years, with the aim of more than doubling the number of tech employees over the same time period.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the Turkish tech sector, Uber will also partner with leading Turkish universities and institutions to cultivate the next generation of innovators and tech leaders, with a strong focus on increasing the representation of women in engineering.
Türkiye is a key market for Uber, with Istanbul becoming a key hub in Uber’s global talent network, and one of the few outside of North America. Uber has tech hubs in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Toronto, São Paulo, Santiago, Amsterdam, Aarhus, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer at Uber, said: “This investment reflects Uber’s ongoing commitment to Türkiye, built on the strength of its exceptional engineering talent. We’ve seen firsthand the creativity and technical excellence of engineers here, and we’re excited to grow our presence, building technologies that transform how people move and connect around the world.”
The Türkiye engineering team will play a central role in advancing Uber’s global product and platform development, driving progress in machine learning, large language model integration, real-time data processing, distributed systems, and mobile innovation.
