Supporting families during COVID-19
Written byDuring these unprecedented times, we know families are facing new challenges – whether it’s where the next meal will come from or how to handle the stress of cooking multiple meals each day.
At Uber, we are always thinking about how we can make people’s lives easier by developing products that solve new challenges. Today, we’re pleased to share that as part of our commitment to provide 10 million free rides & deliveries of food, we are donating 100,000 rides to local school districts and youth organizations for food-insecure families to pick up meals during this time of need. We are also launching Family Style Meals in the Uber Eats app, which will offer larger portions intended for sharing or combination items that provide value and savings, so working parents can spend more time on what matters and less time preparing meals.
Family Style Meals
As families are spending more time together and eating more meals at home, Uber Eats is now providing more options for larger family portions and value meals from restaurants that our customers know and love. While working from home, meal time can be stressful for working parents, so large shareable portions and tons of variety at the tap of a button will save both time and energy.
Easily ordering family meals from the Uber Eats app will give families more time to do what matters, while allowing Uber Eats to handle the rest. Eaters can select family meals from participating restaurants by tapping the “Family Style Meals” section in the app. Depending on the restaurant, menu options will include curated menus focused on larger portions intended to be shared, or a combination of items from mains, appetizers / sides, desserts and beverages that offer value and savings.
Family Meals will launch in the app in New York City and surrounding suburbs, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami and Toronto with San Francisco, DC, Dallas, Boston, Houston, Connecticut and New Jersey to follow and a full rollout in the US and Canada by June.
School District Partnerships
By teaming up with school districts across the country, we are donating more than 100,000 free rides for food-insecure families to pick up meals. Through our relationship with Salesforce, we launched partnerships with the Oakland and Indianapolis school districts, and we’re working with school districts San Francisco, Miami, Dallas, Seattle, Baltimore, Des Moines and more so families will be able to use Uber to access the food they need.
