Uber commits to patent pledge to help support fight against COVID-19
Written byThe COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact on the communities we serve around the world. At Uber, we want to do our small part by helping scientists and others work towards solutions that could end the crisis and minimize its impact.
That is why we are committing to the Open Covid Pledge. By making our patents available free of charge to those working to end the pandemic, we ensure uncertainties around patent rights will not slow or impede urgently needed solutions in this critical time. This commitment follows our other efforts to support public health and safety, vulnerable populations, and local economies around the world.
“At the heart of Uber’s technology is a desire to serve and support our communities,” said Tony West, Uber’s Chief Legal Officer. “The Open COVID Pledge allows us to empower innovators and scientists and to help them create solutions that might put an end to this global crisis.”
The terms and conditions of our patent license can be found here. We encourage other companies to join us in this pledge to ensure that their intellectual property is supporting, and not working against, efforts that could stop the pandemic.
