Almost 20 people die on Singapore roads every month.1 Globally, 3,500 people are killed on the world’s roads each day, which is equivalent to eight Boeing 747s falling out of the sky.2 Left unchecked, road crashes will become the fifth leading cause of death by 2030 – surpassing heart disease and HIV/AIDS.3 This global epidemic demands our attention.

During this year’s World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, Uber reminds you to always buckle up.  Reducing road fatalities and serious injuries requires action. This simple but important step can save your life.

Buckling up reduces the risk of death by approximately 50 percent.4 Imagine the lives saved if we all changed our habits and remembered to buckle up each and every time.

In terms of fatal road accidents, car drivers in Singapore constitute about 17 percent of fatalities.5 The use of seat belts is one of the most effective ways to reduce road accident fatalities.

In Singapore wearing a seatbelt is mandatory and is also the safe choice. Millions of lives have been saved, simply because people decided to buckle up. If the goal is to get to zero or dramatically reduce road deaths and severe injuries, we all have a role to play. Whenever you get into a vehicle, remember to buckle up.

At Uber we believe that road fatalities are preventable. Here are some additional tips to help you stay safe while riding with Uber.
