Uber Eats Predicts Top 20 Foods to Watch in 2018
Written byWho knew pickles would be named the trendiest food of the year in Singapore?
It’s no secret that Singaporeans are foodies and we’re always ready to try out latest food trends – from devouring any dish with salted egg or truffle, to our love for bubble tea and rainbow cakes. This 2018, Uber Eats is ready to reveal the top 20 food trends for the year in Singapore and coming in right at the top of the list: pickles! Whether you like them in your burgers, dipped in hummus (#18) or solo in their own glory, pickles are clearly kind of a big dill this year.
Food bowls, the most popular food on Uber Eats in 2017, comes in second, while up-and-comer of the healthy food trends, the Ube (purple yam) comes in third. Toast, a staple in Singapore, joins the line-up at number four, showing that Singaporeans will never get tired of our good ol’ Kaya Toast.
Of the Top 20, we see healthier options taking over the food scene here with the ever-hipster Avocado (#11), to Chia (#12), Acai (#16) and Quinoa (#17) making it to the list.
Salted egg have seemed to have lost their charm, slipping to number 15, while Truffle sits a couple of spots higher at number 13 – clearly still a popular favourite amongst Singaporeans!
To uncover these foodie favourites, Uber Eats looked at the ingredients and dishes that have experienced the biggest spike in Singapore over the last six months.
Across Asia-Pacific, Australia and Korea join us with pickles clearly trending among the locals, while foodies in New Zealand, Japan and even Malaysia can’t get enough of bowls – whether it’s of the burrito or poke variety.
“Food preferences around the world are constantly evolving – by the hour, the day, the season – and here at Uber Eats, we believe it’s critical to offer our customers choices they feel good about. Our mission is to make eating well effortless, every day for everyone. Connecting people with the food they want is a critical part of getting there, which is why we kicked off 2018 by looking at which foods are trending globally. The better we can understand our consumers, the better we can serve them through products built with their needs in mind”, shared Jeanette Mellinger, Head of Uber Eats User Research.
