Introducing Entrepreneur Hanan AlHamrani.

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting stuffed animals. Amigurumi has also been Hanan AlHamrani’s passion and business since 2012.

Hanan first got inspired to take up Amigurumi when she saw a friend’s crocheted doll and decided that she too can be adept at crocheting, a skill that requires a lot of patience, which Hanan does not lack.

“Nothing is impossible”

Her first Amigurumi doll was not exactly Hanan’s proudest moment, but she was not one to quit after the first try. “Nothing is impossible! I kept trying again and again and worked hard to get to a point where I was proud of my crocheting” says Hanan.

Having overcome the crocheting obstacle, Hanan’s main challenge is now to get people to understand the value of her handmade dolls: “People are used to buying machine-made dolls, they are not aware of the time and effort it takes to develop handmade items.”

Hanan credits technology with helping grow her business. She uses social media to promote her dolls, and uses Etsy, a peer-to-peer e-commerce website and app focused on handmade and vintage items, to sell her dolls all over the world.

“Believe in your dreams”

When asked what she would say to other women who are thinking of starting their own business, Hanan says: “Believe in your dreams, don’t give up too quickly and always remember that no one else can make it the way you see it!”
