Dads. They’re pretty simple. They love to yell at us about turning off lights we’re not using or fix things with duct tape. They’ve been the same for generations, which is great, because we know we can count on Dad. But should Dad’s predictability make our Father’s Day gift-giving predictable too? We think not.

We’re not saying don’t give him a tie this year, just maybe give him a tie with a side of something delicious – after all, we know the quickest way to his heart. Here are some dad-worthy ideas:

Give him the day off the BBQ. Sure, he loves being the BBQ master (and won’t let you touch his tools), but he also loves being catered to. Give the man a seat on the veranda with his feet up and order him his favourite meal. Don’t forget to listen to his stories during dinner. Even if you’ve heard them before. (You have.)

Get sweet on the old softie. Yeah, he was as tough as nails when he grounded you in grade 6. But under that “it’s-for-your-own-good” armour, you know he has a sweet spot for a sugary cupcake, biscuit or other baked goods. Make him feel like a king and have something sweet delivered to him at home or at work.

Breakfast before golf (or footy, or his bike ride, etc.) Give him a delicious send-off before he heads out to do his favourite dad thing. A nice breakfast of eggs and bacon or a tall stack of pancakes will keep him full of energy as he plays his best round of golf ever or posterises another dad. He’s still got it!
