Uber and EVSE partner to deliver easier, more affordable at-home EV charging for drivers across Aotearoa
Written byTo support the growing number of Kiwi driver partners and delivery people making the switch to electric, Uber has partnered with EVSE – New Zealand’s leading EV charging provider – to offer exclusive discounts on at-home charging solutions.
Starting today, eligible driver partners and delivery people can access up to 15% off selected EV home chargers, accessories, and installation services – providing them a tailored, cost-effective charging solution right from their driveway.
This new partnership reinforces Uber’s ongoing commitment to supporting driver partners to overcome barriers to EV adoption. It follows the launch of Uber Green – a fully electric rideshare option introduced in New Zealand in April 2025 – and forms part of a broader suite of local initiatives. These include collaborations with BYD, Mevo, bp charge, and GVI, all underpinned by Uber’s $7.5 million investment to help drivers make the switch to electric.
Emma Foley, Managing Director of Uber Australia and New Zealand, said that enabling access to at-home charging is a key step in making the switch to electric more achievable for more drivers.
“Sustainability should feel easy, not out of reach. We’re focused on providing practical tools and meaningful benefits to support Kiwi driver partners and delivery people as they transition to EVs,” said Foley.
“With Uber Green now operating as a fully electric product in Aotearoa, the focus is shifting to the everyday realities of EV ownership – and charging at home is a major part of that.
“This partnership with EVSE takes something that can often feel complicated or costly and makes it more accessible. It gives drivers a reliable, affordable way to charge at home, on their own terms, with the right support behind them. It’s a small change that can make a big difference in encouraging more people to make the switch.”
Simple, affordable at-home charging with EVSE
Through the partnership, eligible drivers and delivery people across New Zealand will have access to up to 15% off the recommended retail price on selected EVSE products, including:
- 15% off selected Ocular IQ Home Solar EV Chargers
- 10% off accessories such as portable chargers and charging cables
- 15% off the removal fee for existing EVSE hardware
The offer provides a full-service experience – including tailored advice, professional installation and access to a range of hardware options designed to meet the diverse needs of drivers across the country.
Drivers can redeem their unique discount code through the Uber Pro or Uber Eats Pro section of the Driver App. Once a request is submitted, an EVSE representative will be in touch within two business days to provide a quote and guide them through next steps.
Brendan Wheeler, CEO and Cofounder of EVSE said the partnership aligns with their mission to accelerate Aotearoa’s shift to clean transport.
“We’re proud to be partnering with Uber to support their driver community in accessing EV charging solutions that are simple, smart and cost-effective,” Brendan said.
“Rideshare drivers travel more than most, so their shift to electric has a real impact. By combining our expertise with Uber’s scale, we’re making it easier for drivers to benefit from EV technology without the usual barriers while also supporting a more sustainable future for transport in Aotearoa.”
Building an electric ecosystem for drivers in Aotearoa
The EVSE partnership comes as momentum continues to build in EV adoption across the Uber platform. Between December 2024 and February 2025, the number of EVs completing their first trip more than doubled, rising from 8% to 17%. All 750 spots in Uber’s EV subsidy program have now been filled, underscoring strong demand from drivers eager to make the switch.
Insights from recent research by Public First further reinforce this trend, with one in four driver partners saying that earning through Uber made them more likely to go electric. Among riders, 40% reported their first experience in an EV happened during a trip on the Uber platform.
“We want to make going electric easier for drivers – whether it’s getting access to a car or being able to charge it at home,” said Foley.
“By teaming up with trusted local providers like EVSE, we’re tackling the real-life challenges that can hold people back from switching to electric, and helping generate momentum towards a zero-emissions future.”
To access the offer, eligible drivers and delivery people can head to the Uber Pro or Uber Eats Pro section of their Driver App.
