What is triple batching?

Batching is a method of fulfilling multiple orders with one delivery person, at the same time. With the launch of triple batching, one delivery person can now deliver up to 3 orders at the same time.

Types of Batching
Number of orders: Batches can include either two or three orders.
Number of restaurants: Delivery people can pick up batched orders from one merchant (single restaurant batch) or two merchants (multi-restaurant batch).
Timing: Batches can be offered to delivery people at the same time (concurrently) or one after another (sequentially).

What are the benefits of triple batching?

Batching is an efficient tool to allow us to fulfill large order volumes, particularly during busy periods such as lunch and dinner. It improves reliability for customers, reducing the likelihood of their order going unfulfilled.

Triple batching reduces the chance that an order is not able to be delivered.

How does batching work?

Uber Eats systems identify when it is optimal to batch multiple orders together. In making this decision, our systems balance the risk of failing to ever find a Delivery Person for your orders against the time a customer waits for their delivery. This logic considers factors like the distance between merchants and eaters, prep times, predicted delivery times and the current availability of delivery people.

Due to higher order volumes, orders are more likely to be batched during busy periods such as lunch and dinner.

How does triple batching affect my customers?
Batching improves reliability in the marketplace by allowing multiple orders to be fulfilled at once (and reduces the likelihood of orders going unfulfilled), however, delivery times may be longer than non-batched trips.

To help avoid significant delays for customers, our systems limit orders from being batched if delivery times are expected to be extensive.
Can I opt out of batching / triple batching?
No, merchants cannot opt out of batching.
What does triple batching look like for Delivery People?
Delivery People are given the opportunity to accept delivery requests with multiple orders. This may happen up-front or while they are already on a trip.
