FAQ : Residence Permit

21 February 2023 / Netherlands

Why did I receive this message?

You didn’t upload valid documentation for earning on our platform. The Minister of Social Affairs and Employment has found that couriers may not use the Uber Eats app under the residence permit you’ve submitted to earn on our platform.

What do I need to do if I stopped using Uber Eats to earn?

You don’t have to do anything in case you’re no longer using the Uber Eats app to earn.

When do I need to re-upload my documents?

If you’re currently actively delivering via our app, we are happy to welcome you back as soon as possible if you have a valid document from which the right to work in the Netherlands follows. Here you can find the instructions on how to submit a new document that shows your right to work.

How long does it take to have my account activated again once I upload valid documents?

Once you’ve re-uploaded your valid documents, we will process your information as soon as possible. If your documents are accepted you can continue earning immediately after.

How do I know if I have the right documentation?

Your document can be a Passport or ID card (no paper IDs) issued by an EEA country or Switzerland. A Residence Permit is accepted if it’s issued by the Netherlands and it says ‘TWV niet vereist’. Any residence permit mentioning ‘TWV vereist’ or ‘Arbeid toegestaan met TWV’ are not allowed (e.g. student residence permit). We can’t accept photocopied documents, so please make sure you only upload original documents that are not expired.

After deactivation, can I still log in to the app to access my previous earnings information?

Yes, you can continue to access the information in your account, but you cannot use the Uber Eats app to carry out deliveries for restaurants anymore (unless you upload valid documentation from which the right to work in the Netherlands follows).

Has Uber started external consultation with regard to this decision?

The Minister of Social Affairs and Employment has informed Uber Eats that couriers may not use the Uber Eats app under the residence permit you have submitted at the time of your onboarding. Due to the nature and urgency of the situation, we have not consulted with any other external party or government agency.

What can I do if I don’t agree with the decision?

You can reach out to us at any time via the app or the form in the email that you received from us. A member of our expert team will get back to you as soon as possible. You also have the option to book an appointment with an expert at the Green Light Hub in Amsterdam; please follow the steps in the form to book your appointment.
