Pressing Pause in Macau: Uber Hopes to Come Back with a New Business Model
Written byToday, we’re letting you know that as of 23:59 on July 21, Uber will temporarily suspend its ridesharing operations in Macau.
It has been a great honor to serve riders, driver partners and the city over the past 600 days. We are very proud that Macau citizens and foreign visitors have been able to use the app everyday to get around, while driver-partners have enjoyed the flexibility and economic opportunities Uber created.
The decision to press pause wasn’t easy, and was made with the best interests of Macau in mind.
By pausing, we hope to open the door for a constructive dialogue with all stakeholders in Macau; and enable a business environment that realizes the full benefits of ridesharing for everyone. We are already exploring ways to serve the city again, and have had initial discussions with business partners, including transport operators and hotels.
We want to thank riders, driver partners and citizens in Macau for their support. Without it, we would not have made it this far. The local community has been invaluable to us during this process. We are privileged to be a part of your journey.
Thank you, Macau. We hope to see you soon.
