Our commitment: 3 times more women driver-partners by end of 2016
Written byAround the world, women are seeking more work opportunities that can fit around their life. At Uber, we are committed to offering new, flexible ways for women to earn an income while balancing other responsibilities, such as family, work, and education. Globally, we’ve pledged to economically empower one million women as drivers with Uber by 2020.
Here in Hong Kong and Macau, we want to do our part as well. We’re proud of approximately 200 women drivers who partner with Uber Hong Kong and Uber Macau today, but know that there’s a lot more work to be done. That’s why today, on International Women’s Day, we’re committing to tripling this number by the end of this year.
We’d love for everyone in the Uber community to pitch in to help us reach this target! From now through March 30, 2016, if you successfully refer a friend or family to drive with Uber, you’ll earn up to MOP$2,000 in Uber credits.
Meet Uber Macau driver, Ms Lam, who found fulfillment driving with Uber in her free time
Ms Lam had a lot of free time between shifts at the casino resort she works at and started driving with Uber. She initially saw it as just a way to supplement her income, but now sees it as an opportunity to serve her community.
“I used to play a lot of mahjong to fill my free time, but it wasn’t very fulfilling. Now I drive with Uber instead. Not only am I able to earn extra money, but it has really brought more meaning to my life. On one of my first trips, I took an ill 80 year-old senior citizen and her son home from the hospital, and I was really proud to be able to use my experience in taking care of my mom before she passed to help other senior citizens in Macau.” — Ms. Lam
Meet Uber HK driver partner, Ada, an Uber driver-partner building a startup of her own
Ada is an aspiring entrepreneur who uses the Uber platform because it gives her the flexibility she needs to earn additional income while she grows and manages her local business.
“I just kickstarted an online laundry business and Uber has been a great platform for me to network and understand customers’ needs. It has allowed me to spread the word and helped get more people to know about my new venture. Driving in Hong Kong can be a daunting task, but I believe women drivers are just as skilled as men, it’s just a matter of practice.” — Ada
