Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipality of Vilnius and Uber has been signed!

Earlier this week a Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipality of Vilnius and Uber has been signed. The landmark agreement outlines a new partnership between the city authorities and Uber to work together to launch a ridesharing pilot in the near future. The capital of Lithuania will also promote the merits of ridesharing regulation at the national level, drawing on Uber’s international experience. Both the local authorities and Uber share an objective in creating best-practice rules so that consumers and the state can both reap the benefits of the growing on demand, digital economy.

“Lithuania has today demonstrated true leadership by embracing measures which seek to maximise the benefits that ridesharing and new on demand digital platforms such as Uber can bring to cities and citizens across the world. We are incredibly excited to enter into this agreement with the city of Vilnius and we look forward to further developing our cooperation with this forward-thinking city,” said Mark MacGann, Head of Public Policy for Uber in EMEA.

The Memorandum of Understanding underlines key findings about how ridesharing can benefit the city, consumer choice and the environment.

“Like Estonia, where we recently launched a partnership with the tax authority to create smart solutions for the digital economy, we are seeing vision and strong leadership by the Baltic states. Today is the first such Memorandum of Understanding signed with a city in Europe and we hope to have more such constructive talks with others across the region so we can share best-practice and learn from each other.”
