What cars does Uber have on the system in Colombo?

Uber’s goal is to get you a high quality ride as quickly as possible. To do that we need to work with a range of vehicles that are spacious and provide a great ride. We currently operate in Colombo with our global favourite uberX product and the cars mainly include Toyota Prius, Toyota Allion, Nissan Bluebird and other mid-range models. As a rider, your request is sent to the nearest available car. Our goal is to get you a car in less than 5 minutes. We shall continue to cover more areas of the city and add more cars to the platform so that you have full confidence Ubering to or from anywhere in Colombo, at any time of the day.

Who are Uber Colombo’s driver-partners?

Uber performs a thorough check on the documents of every driver-partner using our platform. We check for the National Identity Card, Driving License, Revenue License, Commercial Insurance and Vehicle Registration Certificate. Our driver-partners start driving only after going through a stringent quality and training process. If you ever feel that a specific vehicle is subpar quality, or if you ever had a less-than-Uber experience please do let us know.

What is Uber’s cancellation policy?

Uber charges a cancellation fee if you cancel more than five minutes after requesting a ride. However, if our system expects your driver to be more than 5 minutes late (based on the current ETA), you may cancel without any charges. Multiple cancellations by riders creates a dispiriting and frustrating experience for our partner-drivers and makes the system less efficient for other riders as well. When riders cancel frequently, drivers feel burnt and are less likely to accept pickups. This leads to drivers rejecting longer pickups or calling clients to make sure that they want a pickup.

Where can Uber be used in Colombo?

Pickups can be requested from anywhere within our coverage area accessible here. As we go along, we’ll continue to work on opening up more areas of the city.

What is Uber’s waiting policy?

Uber itself does not provide transportation services and is not a transportation carrier. We do not own cars, nor do we employ drivers. We strive to partner with the best available, local and licensed drivers who reflect Uber’s values of professionalism and courtesy. The drivers that use the Uber system are trying to maximize their profits and want to maximize their drive-time to boost their earnings. Making them wait for long periods makes the service less beneficial for them. We encourage drivers to wait for 10-15 minutes after arriving at the trip starting point and during the trip. Our average ETA in most of Colombo is roughly 6 minutes, so if you feel you will take longer, we recommend booking another ride instead. This makes the whole system much more reliable for riders and drivers alike.

How do I pay for my ride? Can I pay in cash?

Uber currently accepts all major credit and debit cards and these are the only modes of payment. This ensures you don’t have to haggle for change at the end of your ride and makes your Uber experience completely seamless.

How do I get in touch with Uber?
