On February 6, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake centered in southeastern Türkiye, followed by a nearby 7.5 magnitude aftershock, destroyed dozens of villages and upended millions of lives. Our hearts and thoughts are with the thousands of families who have lost their loved ones, their homes and communities.

At Uber, we are mobilizing our teams, our technology and the drivers who use our app to help local relief organizations and NGOs in their efforts on the ground.

Moving essential aid supplies

Earlier today, we launched a designated option in the Uber app in Istanbul called Earthquake Support to allow our users to donate essential aid supplies by calling a taxi free of charge who collects their donations and brings them to dedicated relief centers managed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Materials to be collected for those in need  in the earthquake zone  are: blankets, winter coats and boots, gloves, scarf, hats, linens sets, pillows, power banks, clean clothes for babies.

Assisting blood donors

In the coming weeks, we will support blood donation efforts in cities where Uber operates. We will provide free rides for people to travel to and from designated Turkish Red Crescent blood donation sites in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Adana.

Supporting relief organizations

We are working on a special feature in the Uber app to allow Uber riders outside of Türkiye to donate money to nonprofits that are directly involved in earthquake relief.

Finally, Uber is making a $100,000 USD donation to Ahbap a local non-profit that is leading support efforts on the ground.

The situation remains fluid and the needs on the ground will continue to evolve. We are actively engaging with additional local partners and organizations to find the best ways to leverage our technology and local footprint to support those who need it the most. We stand with Türkiye and will continue to do so for as long as our help is needed.
