Women’s empowerment is one of the single greatest enablers of development and economic growth. To mark International Women’s Day, Uber Eats pledged to scale up the number of Sri Lankan women entrepreneurs on its platform from 100 to over 1,000, by the end of 2020 as part of its Diviyata Diriya initiative, which enables equal access to flexible economic opportunities for women and other marginalised communities.

Diviyata Diriya (“encouragement for life”), is the umbrella initiative of all entrepreneurial programs conducted by Uber Sri Lanka – many of which focus on leveraging the power of the platform to facilitate financial independence for female communities. Since the launch of Diviyata Diriya in October 2018, Uber Eats has leveraged the power of the platform to secure greater financial independence for more than 100 women couriers partners.
