Uber Jordan launches Uber Taxi in a first for the Middle East region
Written byUber’s first taxi product launch in the region pairs the company’s technology with Jordan’s experienced taxi drivers.
Uber Jordan today announced the launch of the Uber Taxi service in the country, offering convenient and seamless taxi rides via the Uber app at the tap of a button. Jordan is the first market in the Middle East region to benefit from the Uber Taxi service and the move is testament to Uber’s support of the public transport sector in the nation, as well as its efforts to make transportation even more accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Uber aims to enhance mobility options across Jordan and contribute towards its growth and modernization through its cutting-edge digital services. The launch of Uber Taxi has expanded the company’s network of vehicles in the country, thus providing new economic opportunities for taxi drivers who will now have access to more trips.
Commenting at the launch event on his first visit to Jordan, Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Vice President of Uber operations in Europe, Middle East & Africa said: “I am honored to announce the arrival of Uber Taxi in Jordan, and we are excited to be tapping into local modes of transport so that more riders and drivers can benefit from our technology. Jordan is a fast growing market, especially in the smart transport services sector, and through this launch, we aim to move towards our goal of becoming a multi-modality platform. Furthermore, we hope that this will galvanize the development of transportation services in Jordan, and provide taxi drivers new opportunities to reap the economic benefits by using our technology to maximise their earning potential through the option of pairing with the closest Uber Taxi rider in addition to traditional street hailing.”
Uber Taxi can be accessed through the Uber app as another choice in service in addition to UberX. The rider will then be matched to the nearest taxi in the exact same way they are matched to any other services on Uber. At present, there are hundreds of taxi drivers on-boarded and ready to start accepting trips.
Both riders and drivers will be able to benefit from the same safety features available across all other Uber products including features such as trip sharing which allows drivers and riders to share details with friends and family during the trip, speed alerts, a feature which reminds drivers to drive within the posted speed limits, and the emergency button, which connects riders or drivers to emergency assistance whenever needed. Taxi drivers will also benefit from the same privileges provided to all Uber drivers, as well as receiving a reduced service fee so that they can truly benefit from the economic opportunities provided through the technology.
Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi recently stated the Middle East remains a top-priority market for Uber, and the launch of Uber Taxi is a significant milestone for the brand in making reliable transportation affordable for residents and visitors across Jordan. It also continues the company’s commitment to addressing air pollution and traffic congestion issues by ensuring all product offerings aim to enhance the cities they’re available in.
