We are delighted to host a one-on-one interaction between two inspiring women leaders. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Ms. Rachel Whetstone will be sharing insights on the vibrant start-up ecosystem in India and how it’s empowering women entrepreneurs.

Rachel WhetstoneMs Rachel Whetstone joined Uber in June 2015 to run Public Policy and PR. Prior to that she spent a decade at Google — first heading up the PR team in Europe before moving to the US to manage PR and Government Relations globally.

Rachel started her career in politics as a research assistant for the British Conservative Party. From there she moved to the Home Office, where she was a special advisor to the Home Secretary. Before joining Google Rachel was Deputy Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Conservative Party. She has two children and lives with her husband in the US.

Smt. Nirmala SitharamanSmt. Nirmala Sitharaman is presently serving as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, as well as a Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs under the Ministry of Finance.

She was a member of the National Commission for Women from 2003-2005 and was instrumental in voicing various issues of women empowerment. Smt. Sitharaman has whole-heartedly supported the boosting of the start-up ecosystem in the country. She has spearheaded the Startup India program. She is particularly enthusiastic about promoting women entrepreneurs. She has stated that “women are no longer proxies”, and is committed to enhance an ecosystem that supports women entrepreneurs.
