Uber and Zomato partner with MoRTH for safer roads
Written byUber and Zomato are partnering with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan, a nationwide road safety campaign that urges people not to rush, and to arrive safe. With millions of trips and deliveries happening daily, we are putting our scale to work to make road safety a shared habit across India.
The campaign was announced in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways; Shri Prasoon Joshi, acclaimed writer, poet and conceptualiser of the campaign; Aditya Mangla, CEO, Zomato; and Sooraj Nair, Head of Safety Operations, Uber India & South Asia.
Together, we aim to influence behaviour at scale by encouraging drivers and delivery partners to follow traffic rules, and reminding riders and customers not to pressure them into rushing. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and every safe choice helps save lives.
On Uber, we are rolling out a new Road Safety Pledge for drivers and stepping up investment in driver education. We continue to build awareness among riders through industry-first safety features like Speeding Alerts, RideCheck, rear seatbelt reminders, helmet verification for Moto, and 24×7 access to a Safety Line and SOS button linked to police control rooms. Drivers across vehicle categories are also protected by insurance, while riders can opt in for affordable accident cover.
On Zomato, safety is reinforced before, during and after every trip. Delivery partners undergo mandatory briefings and take a daily safety pledge, receive real-time weather alerts and precautionary nudges, and have access to 24×7 SOS support with ambulance dispatch. Comprehensive insurance provides additional protection, while partners who uphold road discipline or act as first responders are recognised and celebrated.
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, said: “Road safety is among our nation’s most critical priorities. This initiative is aimed at saving lives by fostering safer driving habits across the country. We welcome the support of companies like Zomato and Uber, whose collaboration helps extend this message to millions of Indians in their daily journeys.”
Building on the third edition of Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan, we are committed to embedding safety into millions of everyday journeys and supporting India’s goal of halving road fatalities by 2030.
