Uber Saarthi: New private car rideshare service to boost mobility in Assam

Creating more economic opportunities while serving the mobility needs of the state – women and veterans will now be able to onboard their private cars on the Uber platform to take trips and make an earning. The launch of the service was announced at Advantage Assam, the state government’s investment summit.
Uber has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Assam, pledging an investment of INR 120 crore over the next 3 years. In 2023, Assam became the first Indian state to allow carpooling under its Motor Vehicle Guidelines.
Our new offering ‘Saarthi’ taps into Assam’s existing mobility infrastructure and fuses it with its tech expertise and global experience of providing shared mobility solutions that optimise assets. Uber has also committed to creating 20,000 livelihood opportunities through its two-wheeler taxi service, Uber Moto, over the next 3 years.
Veterans and women who drive on the Uber platform under the carpooling initiative will undergo a rigorous background check in line with our safety standards. Both riders and drivers will have access to Uber’s suite of technology-led safety features including a 24X7 Safety Line, an in-app emergency button, phone number anonymization and more.
We became the only ride-hailing company to be present across the 7 North-Eastern Indian States in 2022 and have continued to strengthen our footprint, offering safe, reliable, and affordable mobility options.
