Kauai native and Regional Marketing Manager at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Malia helped us kick off the launch of this series by being our first feature. We caught up with her to find out why she rides! See below for her interview:

Why do you ride?

I ride Uber because it’s convenient, safe & reliable.

What makes you feel safe about riding with Uber?

The cars are always clean and relatively new so that’s nice. But it’s really the drivers who make the difference; all my Uber drivers have been such cool people. I took an Uber to the airport a few months ago, and the driver was such a genuinely nice person that I literally wanted to hug him when I got out of the car – like he was just a friend bringing me to the airport and not a random person providing a paid car service. Another guy was so cool that we invited him for an espresso one night – he ended up having me bring him the espresso to the car instead of coming to up our place, since he still had to drop my buddy off at home too. Haha.

What occasions do you use Uber?

I Uber mostly on the weekends when I know I’ll have a drink and shouldn’t be driving. Then when I’m in cities like SF, Chicago, LA, etc. I Uber everywhere.

What is your favorite feature in the app?

For personal: I’m not sure how people survived life before Uber’s split fare feature – it’s THE BEST.

For business: Uber is synced up with my company’s expense report program Concur, so it’s amazing and a huge timesaver to have my ride receipts auto-populate in my expense reports.

How did you sign up for Uber?

My buddy Jared got me hooked up with my first Uber ride not long after they launched in Honolulu. I literally used to have my taxi drivers’ personal numbers saved in my phone, but then along came Uber…and the rest is history. Lol.

What is your favorite Uber option(product) and why?

While split fare is my favorite app feature I think Uber’s creative marketing efforts are awesome. Kitten and Christmas trees delivered to you at the tap of a finger – come on, how can you not love that!

What is your favorite place to Uber to?

I always appreciate a safe ride back home after a fun night out with friends.
