On January 29, we lowered uberX rates to help boost demand during a traditionally slow time of year. Since then, demand has increased—most noticeably in the outer boroughs, where many neighborhoods have seen trip growth exceed 30%. Trips from Soundview in the Bronx increased by 55%, and in Jamaica, Queens, growth reached 51%.

Seeing demand increase at these rates is exciting—more people are relying on Uber more frequently. With so many trips happening every day all across the 5 boroughs, it got us thinking—where is everyone going? What do New Yorkers use Uber for most? To answer these questions, we took a look at anonymized trip data since the price cut. Here’s the full destinations breakdown:

destinations-pie-chart

As you can see, about 33% of all trips end either at home or work—indicating that commuting is a top use-case for many New Yorkers. 29% of all trips end at a transportation hub—the majority of which end at an airport. 16% of trips end at a hotel. These trips are likely split between hotel guests and locals heading to the nightclubs, bars, and restaurants associated with the hotel. Destinations like hospitals, gyms, schools, museums, and shopping centers make up the “Other” 10%.
