Written byAs rains crippled most parts of the city, and Chennai came to a standstill, we heard and saw many stories that reinforced our faith in humanity. The city was under water but the spirit of Chennai was still strong as ever.
Our driver partners were on the road to #KeepChennaiMoving, braving the rains and leaving their families at home, to ensure that riders got to where they needed to be – a safe place. Here are just a few of our driver partners among others who went out of their way to help people get around in these fierce rains and get you to where you needed to be.

“I drove continuously during the rains from 4.30 am to 7 pm. Most of them were leaving the city and I dropped a lot of people to stations and airports. One particular rider had to leave the city urgently, was about to miss his bus, and I managed to get him to the station on time. It was a moment of pride to stay on the platform and do my bit to keep Chennai moving.”

“I took close to 15 rides per day and did my bit to help people during the time of rains. There was water everywhere and the water level reached up to my door but I drove anyway.”

Balaje and Vijay from the Uber Chennai team worked with Food Bank and Namma Chennai to deliver food packets, water bottles, biscuits and other basic necessities to people affected by the flood, who are currently living out of makeshift temporary shelters in and around Chennai.
