On our 70th Independence Day, we salute the men and women who are pushing boundaries, busting myths and charting their own course, as they find their freedom partnering with Uber – The freedom to choose work that fits around their lives, the freedom that comes with being their own boss.

They move you around the city, round the clock, safely and reliably. From fighting prejudice to knocking down all stereotypes, they’ve done it all. They drive when it works for them, doing the amount of work they want. Work that provides a good income with autonomy, flexibility, and dignity.

Here’s a look behind the wheel, at a few of our partners and their inspiring stories.

FREEDOM OF
LIVELIHOOD WITH DIGNITY

As an outstation driver with a travel company, Babu Singh spent 35 years ferrying tourists to nearby destinations. For all these years he felt that his profession did not garner enough respect in society. This coupled with his erratic work hours continued to take a toll on him for several years. The amount of time he spent on the road would differ from month to month and he found himself struggling to make ends meet.

8 months ago Babu chose to become an Uber Partner to earn a livelihood with dignity. Since then his life has changed for the better, both personally and professionally. He now finds himself financially and emotionally confident. img_5506 (1)

CHOOSE A CAREER

Bhupendra, like many others, left his village with many aspirations. Two years ago he and his two partners started a local cab service company. Several bad investments later Bhupendra realised the magnitude of his debts. He spent sleepless nights worrying about how he would recover from the losses that he had incurred. This constant stress started impacting his health.

Through his friends, he stumbled upon the opportunity of working with Uber. Since then, he has made remarkable progress. His life has changed in over a year of partnering with Uber – he can now spend more time with his family, cover his entire family’s expenses and pay for his children’s education. What’s more – with his savings, Bhupendra plans on buying a second car so that he can earn more by optimally utilising his time and resources.

Pawan suffered a great personal loss very early in life. It took him several years to recuperate from an unfortunate incident that had tremendous impact on his life.  In an attempt to start afresh he pooled in his family’s resources and bought a car.

Even though Pawan faced many challenges, he was determined and decided to partner with Uber. He has been driving  for six months now and his fortunes are beginning to change.  He now has a great deal of flexibility, works on his own terms and believes in giving exemplary service to his riders.
