No matter where you are in the world, when you request a ride through Uber you always get these key details that uniquely identify your ride: the make and model of the car, the driver’s photo, and the license plate.

Over the past few years, we have introduced new features to help improve and raise the bar on safety for riders and drivers. For many of these features to be effective, it starts with the basics: getting in the right car.

Today, we are rolling out Check Your Ride in-app reminders and push notifications to all riders across the six continents where Uber operates, just as we did in the United States in April.  Whether you are requesting a ride on the Champs-Élysées, at Copacabana Beach, San Francisco International Airport, or in any of the 700+ cities where Uber is available, we want to remind all riders to check the license plate, car/make model, and driver photo before starting a trip.

In addition to these steps, you can also ask the driver to confirm your name. Your driver sees your name in their app, and your driver’s name is displayed in your app. To safely exchange names, you can ask, “Who are you here to pick up?” The driver may also ask you to confirm their name (“Who’s your driver?”) for their own peace of mind.

In cases when you are helping someone request a ride through Uber who may have had a few drinks or is unfamiliar with the app, help them with the Check Your Ride steps – before they get in the car.

If the information doesn’t match up, do not get into the car. Go to a safe place and wait for the right car to arrive, or cancel the ride and report it to us. In an emergency or if you feel threatened, contact law enforcement immediately by dialing 911 or the equivalent in whatever country you are in and inform us of the incident when it’s safe to do so.

Our goal is to make checking your ride before you get in the car synonymous with using Uber. We are constantly working and innovating to provide riders and drivers with the tools they need to help ensure a safe and reliable experience.

Wherever you are in the world, our message is the same: Check Your Ride, every time.
