Your Safety, Our Priority
Written byLanguage: EN/IN
Every day, tens of thousands of people in Indonesia trust Uber to get them around their city safely; night and day and whether they’re travelling alone or with friends. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our apps, Uber makes cities more accessible – providing safe, reliable transportation options for riders while enabling economic opportunities for drivers. In fact, thousands of Uber driver-partners rely on Uber’s service for their livelihoods – safely and flexibly.
We use both traditional measures and new technology to ensure that we are continuously innovating to offer the safest ride available. Of course, no means of transportation can ever be 100% safe – accidents and incidents will happen. But our technology makes it possible to focus on safety for riders and drivers before, during, and after every trip in ways that others can’t.
BEFORE GETTING IN THE CAR
With Uber, your safety comes first, even before you step into the car.
- No more street hails or waiting outside to find a ride. A rider can start the Uber app from anywhere and wait safely for the car to arrive. That means no standing on the street to hail a cab or struggling to find the nearest bus stop.
- No discrimination. No ride is too long or short. All requests with Uber are blindly matched based on the closest partner-driver, meaning there is no discrimination based on race, gender or pick-up or drop-off location. People can safely get to their destination by day or night, even when they need to travel to hard-to-reach places. We’re there to take riders the extra mile, complementing public transport to provide door-to-door service.
- Trips are no longer anonymous. When a driver-partner accepts a request, a rider sees his or her first name, photo, license plate number and car make model. Riders can also check whether others have had a good experience with him or her. In addition, the driver can see a rider’s first name and rating. Riders can contact their driver—and vice versa—if there is any confusion around pick-up details.
DURING YOUR RIDE
Even from the backseat, you can keep running the show during your Uber ride.
- Never get lost. Riders and driver-partners can see the route on the map in the app. The location is clearly marked so riders know where they are on their journey—and if they are on the right route.
- Share your ETA and location. Riders can easily share ride details, including the specific route and estimated time of arrival, with friends or family for extra peace of mind. They’ll receive a link where they can see in real time the name and photo of the driver, their vehicle, and where the rider is on a map until they arrive their destination — and they can do all of this without having to download the Uber app themselves.
- No need for cash. With the exception of highway tolls and private parking charges, riding in an Uber is a cashless experience. The pre-stored credit card is charged with the fare after the ride is completed. As well as reducing the risk of robbery (since the driver is not carrying accumulating cash), card-based transactions avoid disputes over the fare and protect the driver from fare evasion.
AFTER THE RIDE
Stay in control even after you’ve reached your destination.
- Feedback and ratings after every trip. We ask riders and driver-partners to rate each other and provide feedback before booking or accepting another ride. Our safety team reviews this information and investigates any issues.
- 24/7 support. If something happens in a car, whether it’s a traffic accident or altercation between rider and driver, our customer support staff are ready to respond to any issues 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Rapid response. We have a dedicated Incident Response Team to answer any more urgent issues. If we receive a report that a driver has acted dangerously or inappropriately, we suspend that driver, preventing him or her from working on the platform whilst we investigate.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Uber is constantly working to improve the platform and make it as safe and convenient for you. Here are some of the things going on behind the scenes throughout your entire ride.
- Always on the map. 100% accountability is one of the things that makes our riders feel safe in an Uber. We use GPS to keep a record of where a driver goes during the ride, allowing us to verify that the most efficient routes are being used, which creates accountability and a strong incentive for good behavior.
- Working with law enforcement. In cases where law enforcement provides us with valid legal process, we work to get them the facts, for example by providing trip logs. Again, transparency and accountability are at the heart of the Uber experience.
WHO’S BEHIND THE WHEEL?
More information about how we work with our driver-partners.
- Uber driver-partners undergo further vetting and training, including checks of all their personal and vehicle licensing documents. Our system keeps track of every document’s validity – if a document expires, Uber’s system automatically prevents the driver from working on the platform until their documents are in order.
- Private hire drivers have to show several documents to join the platform. These are the documents and certifications needed: SKU / BPKB, NPWP, Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian, Surat Izin Mengemudi, STNK dan Polis Asuransi all risk.
- Uber Indonesia is focused on doing everything we can to keeping riders safe – in fact we have a team in Jakarta, bandung & Bali dedicated to this objective. Here are just a few of the extra checks Uber adds to the standard process:
- We have strict internal policies around the points that a driver can have on his/her licence, for example we disqualify applicants for any indications of drunk driving and touting.
- Vehicles on the Uber platform must meet strict requirements and cannot be older than 5 years.
It’s these features and measures that give us confidence in our system; the confidence to recommend it to our own friends and family and to trust that our loved ones are moving safely around our city. It’s also what drives us to work every day to hold onto the trust people have in Uber and remain a service that the city can rely on.
