Where were you at 14:29:06 p.m. WIB on May 20? If you were with Uber, then you were part of Uber’s 5 billion trips across the world! Exactly at that second, 156 trips started, tying for our 5 billionth trip.

Uber started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the push of a button? By connecting riders with our driver partners via our application, we make city mobility more accessible, opening new possibilities for riders and new businesses for driver partners. In late 2015, we hit a big milestone: one billion trips. Six months later, we crossed two billion. And just a few weeks ago, on May 20, 156 trips started simultaneously at 7:29:06am GMT (14:29:06 p.m. WIB), putting us over the five billion mark!

These 156 trips happened in 24 countries on six continents, in cities like Mumbai, Moscow and Medellin, including 9 trips in Greater Jakarta. A very lucky uberMOTOR driver-partner was on his first trip: he picked up a passenger in Jakarta. Also, six riders were taking their first Uber trips. Of all the bunch, the shortest trip lasted just 2.5 blocks in San Francisco, and the longest lasted 17 miles in Singapore (that’s pretty far in a country just 31 miles wide). Fifteen riders were on the road, using Uber outside their home city.

We believe all these trips wouldn’t be possible without our driver partners’ hard work. To celebrate this milestone, we’re giving $500 to our driver partners involved in this 156 trips to say thanks.

In Indonesia, our appreciation goes to: Mr. Marjuki (UberBLACK, 4.66 rating, 164 trips since April 2017), Mr Sunardi (UberBLACK, 4.72, 206 trips since April 2017), Mr. Julfren Saragih (uberX, 4.71 rating, 1,573 trips since July 2016), Mr. Dedi Risnandi (uberX, 4.4 rating, 73 trips since October 2016), Mr. Arif Mulianto (uberMOTOR, 4.71 rating, 242 trips since November 2016), Mr. Affan Lubis (uberMOTOR, 4.76 rating, 519 trips since July 2016), Mr. Riyadi (uberMOTOR, 4.72 rating, 247 trips since December 2016), , Mr. Heru Prasetyo Bawiyanto (uberMOTOR, 4.6 rating, 856 trips since November 2016), and Mr. Ahmad Jamal (uberMOTOR, 5 rating, 5 trips since February 2017).

Moving forward, we’re more focused than ever on building features for riders and driver partners that will get us to the next five billion. This is just the beginning…we’ll see you out on the road!
