Why UberKEBUN and what’s up with the parking space?

In many cities around the world one fifth of the land is used for parking space, vehicles spend 96% of their time sitting idle and they’re one of the most expensive possessions families own. That’s just the start of the waste. People spend hours each week sitting in traffic or behind the wheel of a car and one third of the traffic is caused by drivers circling around to look for parking space. 74.4% of the 25.7 million trips that happen daily in Jabodetabek are completed by private vehicles — compared to 25.6 percent who choose public transportation. And the congestion caused by all that individual car use is costing IDR 65 trillion a year in lost productivity.

We believe that ridesharing creates an alternative to personal car ownership and if we reduce our dependency to personal vehicle use and use more ridesharing combined with public transportation – when this happen at scale – the number of vehicles on the roads decline, so will the need for parking space, that means, more space for parks and public space!

So, let’s make our cities better and greener: one shared ride at a time.
