Collaboration to improve convenience in urban mobility
Written byWe believe, better mobility and more public transportation options that are comfortable, safe, reliable and affordable will encourage citizens to use them. This is an important effort to reduce citizens’ dependency on private vehicles, which will lead to reduced congestion, pollution and need of parking space.
That’s why, we were thrilled to partner with GO-CAR* and the Ministry of Transportation on Saturday (1/7) to facilitate air conditioner provision and installation on public minivans in Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor and Tangerang cities. The event, held at the National Monument in Jakarta, was inaugurated by Minister of Transport Budi Karya Sumadi and attended by officials from the Ministry of Transportation, and mayors as well as heads of Transportation Agencies of respected cities.
This initiative demonstrates Uber and GO-CAR’s support of the government’s vision to improve the quality and convenience of public transportation for the benefit of the citizens. It is also a positive move that will foster a good relationship between non-app and app-based mobility services.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated Uber and GO-CAR’s support to the Ministry’s vision of having all public minivans equipped with air conditioner by 2018. “Today’s program is a part of Ministry’s strategic programs to encourage all public transportation operators to improve the convenience, security and safety of their riders,” said Minister Budi.
He also hoped that the initiative will motivate all public transportation operators to immediately implement the program so more people will be encouraged to use public transportation. In addition, he also hoped that this collaboration demonstrates the ability of all modes of transportation to work together for the benefit of the citizens.
At Uber, we also believe that taxi, public minivans, ojek (motorcycle cabs) and app-based mobility options like ours can coexist and grow together, by offering mobility options to users according to each of their own market segmentations. This is the best for everyone. Citizens and tourists have the freedom to choose to hail a ride, or request for one through their phones – either by text message, online or apps.
Together, we can make cities better by offering safe, convenient, reliable and affordable mobility options.
