3 Features to Improve Driving Experience
Written byDriving with Uber means more than just being on the road. From getting work at the touch of a button, choosing when and where to drive, to tracking progress toward goals—our driver-partners make choices at every turn. That’s the beauty of the on-demand economy: you define the work you do, it doesn’t define you.
Every day hundreds of Uber engineers, product managers, and designers are working hard to make the Uber experience as rewarding and stress-free as possible for drivers. Last year, we revamped the driver app to make it more intuitive and easy to use, and today, we’re excited to announce new driver features, so Uber works better for them.
Driver Destinations: Driver Destinations is all about making it easier to fit work around drivers’ life — not the other way around. Twice a day, drivers can input their destination – say if they’re heading to work in the morning or going home after a long day — and Uber will only send trip requests that are on their way. Drivers in a handful of cities in the U.S. and around the world have already been using this tool. All Uber trip requests that a driver would normally receive—whether it’s uberPOOL, uberX, or another ride option—can be matched so long as it’s in the direction of the driver’s destination. It’s easier than ever to earn a few more fares on their way to work or home.
This feature is available for 2-wheeled and 4-wheeled products in Jakarta.
Drivers can set a destination in 3 quick steps:
- Go online and tap the clipboard icon in the top corner of the app to set destination
- Select a saved location or search for a new address
- Start driving toward the destination—Uber will automatically filter requests for trips along the way
Forward Dispatch: Drivers are never idle because technology optimises efficiency — when a driver is finishing a trip nearby and he/she can accept a future trip and be rerouted to the next pickup point, no down time. This means significantly lower waiting time for riders because they get the nearest driver around their area. The ETA we give to riders takes into account the time it will take the driver both to complete the trip and get to the riders – it shouldn’t take any longer just because they are on a trip. For example, if a driver is only a 1 minute from a destination and a rider is 3 minutes away from that destination, we’ll connect them (now 4-5 minutes away) instead of the next vehicle which may be 8 minutes away.
This feature is available in 4-wheeled products in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Bali.
Uber Venues : a specific and customizable interface rider pickup and location information for large scale, multi-entry/exit venues, namely airports, stadiums, events, universities, and shopping malls. The aim of this feature is to improve the overall pickup experience and reduce confusion – on both the rider and driver side as well as reduce unnecessary subsequent rider-driver contact to coordinate a pickup at these venues.
On the Rider side they will now have the option to select what terminal and lobby they are at. On the Driver side they will now see the correct terminal and lobby where the rider is supposed to be waiting, instead of having to look up and down the pick up area. This feature is available in all cities: Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Bali.
As Uber grows, we will continue collaborating with our partners and developing new features for wherever the road may take them. To learn more about the Uber Partner app’s features, visit the app website, to find out how to to sign up as Uber driver-partners, visit t.uber.com/daftar
