Uber’s first home in Hong Kong was a coffee shop, from which a team of three worked to explain the benefits of the app to potential driver-partners and build our operations from the ground up. Two and half years later, ridesharing has blossomed – along with the Uber team that is supporting it.

We are now more than 100 – strong, outgrowing the coffee shop many times over. So we have moved into a new home to better support and share the benefits that ridesharing is bringing to our city and tens and thousands of driver-partners on the platform. We have had to make space for the UberEATS crew: ensuring city residents can get food from 950 restaurants with just a simple click on the app takes a lot of people behind the scenes.

We also wanted to create space for the community around us: partners, students, industry folk, public transit experts. All are welcome to come here and connect with Uber.

Our new space is 9,000 sq ft (830 sqm), and has meeting rooms, service areas, and private work booths that are designed to reflect the landscape we live in: the island’s waterfront topography, undulating mountains and urban life.

The reception area is decorated with blue tiled walls and floor, contrasted with a handcrafted neon sign spelling our Uber. An intricate wall painting by local artist depicts a floating city, packed with Hong Kong landmarks, futuristic transport options and symbols for the company. Elsewhere, there are writable walls and columns where Uber staff are encouraged to express themselves.

The office is designed to connect people, reflecting what Uber does everyday, many times over. At the heart is a café pantry for large events, independent working and informal meetings. It includes a long island, stage seating, and a 20m-long signature ‘Bean’ table with cushioned seats facing the city’s racecourse, sports grounds and mountains.

Mr. Kenneth She, General Manager of Uber Hong Kong, “This is a fantastic space from which to further unlock the benefits ridesharing is bringing to Hong Kong. Through our technology and services, we encourage human interactions and are bringing people closer together in a busy city like Hong Kong  We are now firmly entrenched in the city, with millions of trips completed in 2016.”
