Metered-pricing option is now available with Uber Taxi

Metered-pricing option¹ is now available with Uber Taxi! We believe our new option would bring you a more flexible and diverse platform experience. After a Metered Taxi request is made, your booking will be sent to the HKTaxi platform and you will be paired with a HKTaxi driver-partner.

What are the differences between Metered Taxi rides and the existing Taxi rides?

Metered Taxi rides are supported by HKTaxi driver-partners and the trip fares are charged according to meter; whereas the existing Taxi rides are provided by taxi driver-partners registered with the Uber platform and adopt the upfront pricing structure.

Using the same Uber app, you can choose between Taxi rides and Metered Taxi rides based on your needs.
How are metered-pricing fares calculated?

Metered-pricing option offers a familiar pricing structure, where the fare is calculated based on the total amount shown on the meter. This means the fare will not vary because of surge or actual demand and supply conditions. Also, any applicable fees, such as round-trip tunnel tolls and luggage fees, will be included.
What types of payment do Metered Taxi rides accept?

Electronic payments, including credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Paypal are accepted. Meanwhile, cash payments are not currently supported for Metered Taxi rides.

When the trip is completed, HKTaxi driver-partner will enter the final fare in the HKTaxi App as shown on the meter. Uber will automatically approve the fare, and there is no need for you to confirm the fare again on the Uber App. Once the fare is confirmed, payment will be processed with your preferred electronic payment method.
Prior to the booking confirmation, can I see the estimated metered-pricing fare of my Metered Taxi trip?

The estimated fare will appear on the booking page for your reference. When you request a ride, Uber may apply a temporary authorization hold based on the estimated maximum fare, hence you will see it as a pending amount in your account’s payment method. Once the trip is completed, this pre-authorised amount will be cancelled. The final trip fare will align with the total amount displayed on the meter.
Will Metered Taxi trips replace the existing Taxi rides?

No. Please be assured that we will keep providing our existing upfront-pricing Taxi rides as well as Metered Taxi trips. With the additional ride option, we hope to offer more choices for you.
