From now on, all you have to do is tap on the Flash feature in the Uber app to access both Taxi and UberX. We’ll bring you to your destination with the fastest and closest option.

Quality: ensuring a top-notch trip experience

To ensure quality service, all Uber driver-partners and their vehicles in Hong Kong must meet certain criteria. We also encourage drivers and riders to rate their trips to keep each other accountable. In case of lost belongings or any other issues, our team is always ready to help.

How are Flash trip fares calculated?

Trip fares are calculated the same way for both Flash and UberX.
The cost of the trip is the same between Flash and UberX. Whether you are matched with a Taxi or an UberX, your trip fare and payment method will be the same. After you’ve entered your dropoff point and selected Flash, you will see a fare estimate (including toll fees). After the ride, the fare agreed upon before your journey will be charged automatically to your credit card—a quick and convenient way to pay.

How it works

Open the Uber app.
In Where to? enter your destination.
Select Flash then Confirm Flash.
A pop-up message will let you know that you will be matched with the closest Taxi or UberX.
Click on Confirm to request a ride.
If you are matched with a Taxi, you’ll receive a record of hire by email.
Upon completion of each trip, the fare will be charged to your credit card.
Rate your driver and add an optional tip. You will receive an electronic receipt by email afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Can promo codes be used on Flash rides?

Unless otherwise stated, all promo codes can be used on Flash trips (excluding Uber Eats promo codes).
Is UberX going to be available in the future?

Don’t worry—all other Uber services will remain the same, including UberX, UberBlack, UberXL, and Assist. Flash and UberX will remain 2 different options on the app. Just select your desired option and request a ride.
Can credit cards be used to pay for Flash rides?

Whether you are matched with a Taxi or an UberX, you can pay with your credit card, so don’t worry about not having enough cash. After you arrive at your destination, the fare agreed upon before your journey will be charged automatically to your credit card. You will receive an electronic receipt by email afterward, so you don’t have to keep a physical copy.
What Uber app services can we expect from Flash?

Our mutual rating system and customer support infrastructure will remain in effect to maintain standards of quality. No matter whether you are matched with a Taxi or an UberX, you will continue to enjoy all existing features within the Uber app, including upfront pricing, live GPS location sharing, estimated time to destination (ETD), split fare, in-app communication, lost and found reporting, electronic payment, and more.
