Whether it’s your phone pin, your bank details or the password for your email address, online security has never been more important. Your Uber account is no different, as it contains your personal information – it’s crucial to keep it secure. Since helping you maintain your Uber account’s data security and privacy is one of our priorities, we’ve put together a list of handy hacks for avoiding hackers (try saying that three times fast).
Why and when you should change your password
Your password helps keep your account and all the information in it, such as your personal details and payment method, safe. If you’re worried that someone is using your Uber account or has gotten hold of your login details, you should change your password right away. The most obvious sign is unusual activity, like charges you’re not expecting.
If you notice anything unusual going on with your account, it’s always best to change your Uber password just to be safe. In fact, you should change it regularly anyway – even if you’re positive that no-one could have guessed the middle name of your favorite childhood pet.

How to change your Uber password
It’s easy to reset your Uber account password, whether you’re having security worries or have just had the same one for a while. If you’re on the app, just open the menu bar, tap Settings and then tap Account Settings. Tap on your details at the top and you’ll get the option to enter a new password.
If you can’t get into your account for any reason, you can use the Forgot Password option to reset it to a new password of your choosing. A password reset link will be sent to your email for you to change your password.
If you can’t reset your Uber password from the password reset link, we can help you recover your Uber account. There are also plenty of help articles on both the app and the Uber desktop and mobile websites that will guide you through the process.

Keep information updated
If you do run into any issues with the security of your Uber account, we’ll need to be able to verify that it’s you who’s trying to fix them. For example, you can reset your Uber password using your mobile number or email address. To do this, of course, we’ll use the info that you’ve provided us with, so make sure that you always keep your information up-to-date. As well as helping to protect your data security with Uber, it’ll make your experience with us run more smoothly.
Ultimately, when it comes to avoiding hackers, prevention is easier than a cure. Don’t enter your details into unfamiliar websites, and always be sure to double-check the URL of a website you’re using in case it’s a fake. There are a few basic precautions to take in real life too, like making sure you don’t give your login details to strangers and that others don’t see you typing in your password.
We’re also doing our part to help maintain Uber’s data security and keep your experience positive. The Uber privacy policy states that we never sell your data to third parties to make sure you have complete control over your data, and our team is always available through our help section if you have any concerns.
Okay, everybody got that? Great – then you’re ready to ride!
