Our driver-partners have played a pivotal role in ensuring the success and growth of Uber in Ghana. We like to celebrate them by hearing their incredible stories. In the first edition of the Behind the Wheel series, we caught up with Princess, a student at the University of Ghana, Legon and an Uber partner-driver. Here is what she had to say about the platform and her experience so far:
Tell us about yourself?
Hi! My name is Princess and I’m a Marketing Major at the University of Ghana, Legon. I’m also the CEO of a food company called Grao Grao snacks and beverages.
How did you hear about Uber?
I was on vacation and very bored. Luckily, I saw a post on my Whatsapp group that went like: “Do you have a car parked at home? Do you want to make quick money?” When I saw “quick money” I was so excited so I called the number, quickly went to the office and got myself signed up!
What were you doing before Uber?
I’m still a full time student and I also run my food company. I drive Uber part-time to make extra cash. I drive whenever I’m free! Mostly in the afternoons and evenings but when I want to make a lot of money, I drive in-between classes as well!
What’s been the best part of your experience driving with Uber?
It has given my business more exposure. I’ve had amazing passengers! I met Dedo Azu, the owner of Tea Baa and she gave me a free drink! I love interacting with all my riders and telling them about my business.
What’s it like being a female driver-partner on the platform?
It’s very interesting! People are surprised when I pick them up. My parents are very supportive of my business ventures and I am actually working on getting another car to use on the app.
Advice for other driver-partners who want to join the Uber platform?
Uber is quick money and it’s very convenient because you can drive in your own time. I also love that it makes me independent.
