Whether you’re hoping to shop, eat, drink, or roam the street and alleyways, London’s West End is one of the city’s most exciting spots. Many consider London’s West End to be mighty expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Exploring the West End in one day can be easy and cost-efficient. All you need is a little help from Uber and the guide below:
The Science Museum
Since 1928, the Science Museum has wowed locals and visitors alike with its rare archives and intergalactic displays. Nowadays, the museum is packed full of interactive exhibitions, simulators, film snippets, amulets, alligators, and pretty much anything else that comes to mind. The museum offers something for both grown-ups and kids, and the best thing is, it’s free—though you can make a donation if you choose.
China Town
Almost every big city has a Chinatown, and London’s Chinatown is certainly worth a visit. A short uberX or uberXL ride of between £8 and £11 will take you straight to the colourful clutches of this most bustling part of London’s West End. Walk down the main drag and marvel at the market traders, floating sky lanterns, rows of Peking duck, and traditional decoration that unfolds before your eyes. Be sure to stop and enjoy a pork or vegetable bun from one of the many authentic street food stalls.
Leicester Square
Right next to Chinatown lies Leicester Square, the gateway to London’s Theatreland. Leicester Square is rife with activity 365 days a year, and just walking past the many neon lights and West End musical billboards is a real buzz. The M&Ms store isn’t far and sells some of the world’s most unusual flavours of the popular candy, and the nearby Shakespeare statueprovides a priceless photo opportunity.
Covent Garden
It would be wrong to go to the West End and not visit Covent Garden. A £5 Uber ride will get you there in a jiffy, so you’ll be enjoying the area’s many high street shops, boutiques, and market stalls in no time. Covent Garden is popular among locals and visitors alike, so it does get busy, but with some of the world’s best street performers on display every day of the week, you’re sure to see something special.
Golden Square
A scenic stroll or a £5 to £9 Uber ride from Covent Garden and you will arrive at a little-known sanctuary called Golden Square. Despite being situated on the edge of Soho, this small patch of land is a peaceful place to unwind after navigating the hustle and bustle of the West End streets. The pubs around Soho are often full to the brim and it’s hard to get a seat, but here you can grab a craft beer or two, plus a healthy bite from Whole Foods, take a seat outside on the terrace, and watch the world go by.
Kingly Street
A short stroll from Golden Square, Kingly Street is Carnaby Street’s secluded little sister. Wander through Carnaby Street on foot, then cut through to Kingly Street to grab a drink and soak in the ambience. The Red Lion oozes Victorian charm and it’s the perfect place to enjoy a pint of ale or glass of wine after a long day of sightseeing. Afterwards, shuffle on down to Ain’t Nothin But Blues Bar and check out a musical act for a small (or even free) cover charge.
