The uncertainty caused by the coronavirus is being felt by everyone around the world. We know it’s also concerning for restaurants partnering with Uber. In these difficult times, supporting your business is a priority for us.
The circumstances surrounding COVID-19 are changing rapidly and we expect they will continue to do so over the coming months. We will be providing you with up-to-date information on this page, as soon as it becomes available.
The Prime Minister has announced a national lockdown to help tackle the rise in COVID-19 across the country. Restaurants can continue to provide delivery (including alcohol, however you will no longer be able to serve alcohol for takeaway or through Pick-up. Uber Eats will continue to operate delivery services as usual, but from tomorrow restrictions on alcohol sales via Pick-up will be introduced.
The restrictions will come into effect on Wednesday 6th January, and are expected to last until the middle of February if the situation improves. More information is available here.
From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced a number measures to keep restaurants, customers and couriers safe:
Contactless delivery: No-contact delivery is now the default on all Uber Eats deliveries in the UK.
Hygiene kits: We have distributed over 800k face coverings and 90,000 hand sanitisers to couriers in the UK & Ireland, and we are now providing kits with reusable face coverings.
Safety checklist: Prior to going online, couriers will be asked to confirm that they’ve taken certain safety measures such as wearing a face covering when picking up an order, washing or sanitising their hands after each delivery, adhering to social distancing measures and following no-contact delivery instructions when dropping off an order.
Restaurant guidance: Working with public health organisations including the World Health Organisation to provide restaurants with safety guidance on food delivery.
In-app feedback: Introduced the ability for both restaurants and couriers to report within the app any concerns in adherence to safety guidance, such as ‘no social distancing’ .
Extending 0% fee on Pick-up: To help your business we’re extending 0% fee on Pick-up orders until 31st March 2021. To ensure you’re benefiting from this, please contact us at ukirestaurants@uber.com.
Extending free daily payments: You can also continue to benefit from free daily payments until 31st March 2021, rather than the standard weekly billing cycle. To switch this on for your restaurant, navigate to the Payments page in Restaurant Manager. There’s no need for you to take any action if you are already signed up for daily payments.
We will continue to remind couriers on safety measures such as wearing a face covering when picking up an order, social distancing and regular hand washing.
